Can you believe that Thanksgiving is
just around the corner, or that
Christmas is so close-by? On the
thought of Christmas, we are selling
50/50 tickets and the drawing will be
at our Christmas Dinner on December
9th. Sure would be great to win $1000
for your Christmas shopping or for
whatever strikes your “fancy”. Also, at
the Christmas Dinner, a new Doe of
the Year will be announced for 2009.
We will be voting on this at our
October 28th meeting. This is an honor
bestowed on a member for going that
extra mile in doing work, volunteering for duties, and just for
being an outstanding Doe for the whole year. A nominating
committee has been named for electing new officers for
2009. Installation will be in January.
We had the Cake-Ice Cream Party at Brookside Living
Center on October 11th. We had good attendance that enjoyed
a small pumpkin filled with candy, and two residence had
celebrated birthdays and received a gift.
Nancy Thomas sang pretty songs while the rest of us scooped
ice cream, cut cake, and served the residents. In addition to
Nancy, we had Roger and Anne Williams, Peggy Brown,
Laura Morrison, Marge Monahan and her granddaughter,
“Billie”. Our next party will be on November 8th at 3PM.
We held our Does meeting on October 11th, and honored the
five year officers who were present in attendance. They were
Nellie Kinley, Carrie Loudin, Jean Thompson, and Carrie
Gibson. We also celebrated our Drove Anniversary. The
Drove was formed in 1972 with the late Muriel Beacham as
President. Following the meeting, Cake and Punch was
enjoyed. We have been collecting needed supplies for
Hospice of the Upstate. The later part of October these
supplies will be delivered to Hospice House by several of our
members. We all know that this is a very deserving cause.
Thank you, Elks, for the support that you give us. We
appreciate you very much!
